COMO DISSE QUE DISSE ?

The increasing failure of large sections of the population to engage with the political process may lead to a situation where governments are no longer effectively held to account. Over a period of time, this could encourage a gradual growth of ‘quiet authoritarianism’ in Britain where policy and law is made in consultation with a small coterie of supporters and with little reference to wider views and interests. Under such circumstances, the processes of democracy, including general elections, become empty rituals. The more critical commentators argue that this has already happened.
